After a rather unusual start to journey over to the match they boys were in high spirits and the rugby chants start early into the journey.
We started against a strong Gillingham side that had some big runners but the boys found their grove quickly and slowly edged away at their defence.
The boys ran hard, straight and full of aggression and it eventually paid off with Josh going over the line after breaking 3 tackles.
The scrum was solid and with Elliot at hooker who took a couple against the head In a. Brilliant debut. Ben was a menace as ever jackleing the ball and hitting countless rucks, running hard and doing what Ben does best.. terrorising the opposition. Jeppe, yehor, jasper and Samuel were all punching holes through the defence with some strong running the boys were wearing the opposition down.
The boys finished the game 14-0 with Clayton turning on the after burners and gassing the opposition centres fending them off as they attempt to tackle him. He’s looking sharp already this season and his pace was noticed by the opposition coaches.
The second match the boys found their stride and didn’t hold back. Whilst we have plenty to work on the backs looked sharp with Ricky and Seb out in the wings who didn’t miss a tackle and made ground every time they had the ball. Josh was delivering some brilliantly executed passes and led from the front with strong leadership and a clear vision of where he wanted the play to go. Barns at scrum half had an excellent game and disrupted the ball quickly and accurately as well as doing his fair share of securing rucks and nippy breaks. Jack in the centre I would like to see have more ball but when he did have it he looked explosive. Thomas at full back again needs more ball in hand but defend well and ran strongly.
All in all for the boys first game not to concede a try but score a handful was just the start they needed.
Well done lads. Man of the match goes to Elliot on his rugby debut.
