Match Report
Forres Sandle Manor School Mixed-U9B vs  Salisbury Cathedral School
On: Tuesday, 01 Oct 2024
Venue: Away

Another busy - and quite chilly - afternoon of football, although we had a rest in between matches this time. First up was West Hill Park Bs. This was a well balanced match in terms of possession, with FSM having perhaps a few more shots on goal, but a steady WHP goalie kept a clean sheet. We were a little ragged around the edges today, mostly because we were crowding the ball (to be fair, so was the opposition). Sometimes we tackled our team-mates; sometimes we just got in their way. However, a solid 0 - 0 draw was a fair result.

Next up was Park C team. FSM had woken up a little by now, and there were some fierce tackles, with Bess and Georgiana really getting stuck in. Bess took the ball down the wing and in towards the goal; the goalie saved it and there was a bit of a scramble, but Eason was ready for the rebound, getting our score going. A further two goals earned him a hat-trick and, despite some good runs, FSM's defence held firm, with Issy as goalie. A solid victory.

Our last game was against Sherborne C. We tried to spread out a little more in this game, although there was still the temptation to clog up the area around the ball. Bess was a bit of a tornado in this game, tackling pretty much anything wearing different coloured socks. Charlie played a strong game up front, finding the back of the net along with Eason. Sherborne had a couple of breaks and our defence had to play catch-up as they headed down the pitch, leaving Arrietty with a tricky 1-on-1 to defend, and giving our opposition their first goal.

Overall, some good work from the team. Arrietty, Victoria and Issy took turns in goal, as well as getting stuck in on the field; Clemmie, Etta and Hermione got progressively stronger at tackling, especially in the mid-field. Charlie, Jaiden and Eason had some decent runs on the ball, but player of the afternoon honours go to Bess and Georgiana for tenacity, guts and real progress in game involvement. Well done, girls - and well done the whole Team: unbeaten!
