Thomas and Jack ‘the bash twins’. Today were our only yr7s playing up and as they have for so many years fought against older pupils tooth and nail until the bitter end. They both scored brilliant tries along the way and are a real credit to the team and never take a backwards step. At every opportunity they were hungry to show the opposition no fear with some ferocious running and hand offs.

Barns ‘the brave’ started where he finished off last week. Another excellent afternoon providing quick ball, lots of big tackling and a couple of great runs and assists. Another player even started kicking off at him after Barns put a big tackle in and when that happens you know you’re doing something right.

Clayton ‘turbo’ Bridges saved his best game till the final and scored two excellent tries in the corner catching two rocket passes in full stride beating his defenders and helping secure the win for gold. Get him the ball in hand and he makes things happen. With more 7s after Christmas there’s no doubt he’s going to be featuring highly on the score sheet.

Ricky ‘the face’ du luart. He took a bit of bang early on but that’s what happens when you tackle with your face. However he can take full credit that it would have been a definite try had he not stopped the winger. After he was assessed and the blood had dried up he got straight back into it a scored a worldly of a try finishing off with a salmon dive after beating at least 3 players. Gutted he didn’t get to play against Walhampton but ‘do it for Ricky’ was the team talk and the boys did just that.

Yehor the’ mighty’ just gets better with every single game and he really found his stride today and scored countless times but his defence is getting stronger and tougher. He a joy to watch, play and coach. Another season and he going to be a handful for any team to deal with.

Jeppe ‘the stepper’ had the best send off today from his team mates. Completely new to rugby but a deadly try scorer and he’s been a real asset to the rugby team and will be missed in the 7s season. His footwork to beat defenders is incredible.

Ben ‘the Cannon’ Kennedy must have had turn overs today in the double figures and not only that, he ran hard tackled hard and counter rucked at every opportunity. Whilst I often describe him as a menace to other teams he was monster today.

Josh ‘the Jet’ WAS ON FIRE ?? . Player of the tournament and admired and envied by every coach and player at the tournament today. When you’re in big games you need your big guns to step up and do the business. Today the boys captain did just that. He was destructive, aggressive and today striked fear into the oppositions best players. On top of that he was unselfish and varied his attack but most importantly brought everybody with him who in turn upped their game. Having your captain lead by example gives everyone else the confidence to play their best game and today thats exactly want everyone did.

Boys it was an incredible performance and certainly right up there as a highlight of my FSM career to see you boys win.

A well earned rest deserved but consider that the start of things to come!
