The Under 9s boys kicked off their rugby season in style today with an end-to-end thriller at Chafyn Grove. The match got off to a cracking start, with William and Freddie setting a defensive tone that resonated throughout the game. Right from the first possession, Cameron spotted an opportunity, weaving through the red defence to score the opening try of the day.
Chafyn Grove came back hard, but Daniel delivered an incredible tackle in midfield, and William was right there to follow up with a superb try-saving tackle into touch. FSM’s scoring continued, thanks to Cameron, who notched up his second try. Not to be outdone, William received a silky pass from Jaiden and executed some fancy footwork to score from halfway.
Chafyn Grove responded fiercely, with FSM boys feeling the pressure. Harry stepped up in defence, delivering magnificent hits alongside Tommy and Charlie. However, Chafyn managed to find gaps and scored their second try, bringing the score to 3-2 in the dying moments of the first half. Just when it seemed all was lost, Cameron spotted a narrow opening and, with a touch of brilliance, scored his third try.
An early Chafyn Grove try in the second half ignited the boys' spirits. Felix showcased a storming run through the middle, setting up Cameron for his fourth try. The action was relentless, with scoring going back and forth. Eventually, William made it 6-4, while Freddie was nothing short of a demon on the pitch, giving his all with every big hit. Chafyn Grove exploited a slight gap, narrowing it to 6-5 with minutes to spare. Step in Sir Cameron, who dashed around the pitch to score again. Freddie finished with a dynamic run through the heart of the pack, sealing the match at 8-6 to FSM. What a game!
Tough calls for MOTM today but it has to go to Cameron for his try scoring ability, smooth runs and leadership on and off the pitch.
