FSM welcomed a physically imposing and well organised Boundary Oak team on a chilly November afternoon. Within seconds of the kickoff, Pedro danced past a few towering opposition defenders before curling a brilliant effort into the top corner.
A deceptively even first half saw the opposition score four quick goals to leave the FSM boys a little shell shocked at the scoreline. Mr Hosking called them in at half time and reassured them that if they continued to work hard and have faith better results would follow.
In the second minute of the second half a good free kick saw FSM claw a goal back, and for the next ten minutes they were on top and unlucky not to eat further into the opposition's lead, before an unlucky mistake led to a penalty kick for Boundary Oak. Archie got a strong hand to it but it just crept over the line. He followed this effort with a series of confident and assured saves that kept FSM in the game, as their forwards Ben, Joey, Max and Pedro looked threatening whenever they were on the ball.
In defence Felix and Archie defended heroically, and special mention must go to Theo for being brave and making several key interceptions and tackles against some imposing play from Boundary Oak's physical forward line. It was not a game that was reflected in the scoreline that finished 7-2, and on another day FSM's good play and hard work could have seen them finish with at least a draw.
At full time Mr Hosking praised them for not letting their heads drop, and challenged them to take this experience into the rugby season which commences shortly.
